VTT - MOUNTAIN BIKING

This is a sport that is growing in popularity in England but has been well established in the Alpine regions for many years.

You can bring your own bikes either by car or hire in the area. Several of the winter ski hire shops rent bikes in the summer and they are of a good standard, well serviced and usually full suspension. If flying, airlines will transport bikes as long as they are suitably packed in bags or boxes that you can purchase from places like Halfords.

You use the same lift system, though much reduced, as you do in the winter to get up the mountains and well marked routes to come back down or even around on linked trials.

The lift pass for the summer is £22 per person per week or you can just buy a ticket per day or even per ride up. Descents are free as are the valley buses which run hourly from our village of Bozel right up into 1850 and La Tania. These buses will carry up to 6 bikes free of charge on the back of them.

There is also a leisure pass which is well worth buying if you are planning at least 2 days montain biking and 2 visits to the pool. This pass covers unlimited use of all the lifts for 6 days, unlimited entry into the Swimming pool in 1550, 2 hours off-peak use of the tennis courts also in 1550 and entry into the ice rink in 1850. The cost is 40 Euros per person per pass.

On Thursdays the links for the Three Valleys are open and it is possible to "bike" to Meribel, St Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens. All you need is the stamina!
